TfL, Transport for London, recently installed LED lighting to the Upper Thames Street westbound tunnel, making it the first central London tunnel lit entirely by eco-friendly LED lighting. The lights installed in the tunnel include
LED down lights and panel lights that are designed to improve visibility for cyclists and motorists, to boost safety.

According to TfL, the LED lighting system will be closely monitored during the next few months as part of the validation process of the new technology, and there will be also investigations in other areas on the feasibility of introducing LED lighting technology within the other 12 tunnels on the TfL road network.
